HYDERABAD: Major Opposition parties have asked the State Government to halt the auctioning of lands failing which it will face serious consequences. The Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and other parties expressed concern over the auction of lands to benefit rich and multinational companies while the Government is denying the same to poor. Participating in a round table convened by the CPI, the representatives lamented that the Government which is denying 60-ft land to poor is handing over thousands of acres to the rich. Condemning Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s decision to go ahead with the auction, the meeting demanded that the Government stop auction of lands at Rayadurgam slated for Thursday. CPI State secretariat member K. Ramakrishna conveyed his party’s decision to stage protest at the auction venue and block the process. TDP representative K. Vijayarama Rao criticised the Government for “misusing” the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority and the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation by involving them in auction. TRS representative N. Narsimha Reddy said the Congress is toeing the line of the TDP Government that started the auction process.
