NEW DELHI: The Delhi unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) organised a rally at Jantar Mantar here on Wednesday to press its demand for broadening the reach of the public distribution system (PDS) to include all unorganised sector workers in the Capital. The gathering also demanded distribution of food grains and essential articles at subsidised prices to all those included in the “Below Poverty Line” list. Addressing the gathering, CPI (M-L) Delhi State secretary Rajendra Pratholi said his party wanted an end to corruption in the public distribution system. He also demanded that the price of food grains and other essential commodities provided through the PDS be fixed at the rate of Rs.2 per kg for wheat and Rs.3 per kg for rice. “All workers from the unorganised sector should also be provided election photo identity cards on the basis of ID cards provided by the Labour Department. The Supreme Court-appointed Justice Wadhwa Committee recommendations should be implemented in the PDS,” said Mr. Pratholi.
