Bangalore: The All India Federation of Women Lawyers (IFWL) and its Karnataka Chapter have organised a two-day “Asia Women Lawyers’ Conference” here on September 22 and 23. The theme of the conference is “women’s rights are human rights.” The topics that will be discussed include domestic violence and trafficking of women and children. “The objective of the event is to learn from successful programmes in Asia so they can be used as examples by government and non-governmental organisations here,” said Sheela Anish, president of IFWL. This was the first such international event conducted by Indian women lawyers and over 1,000 delegates were expected to participate in it, she said. The function will be inaugurated by Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan and attended by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. The speakers will include judges, jurists, academics and lawyers from India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Pakistan.
