It is Vodafone brand from Sept. 21

The pug featured in Hutch advertisements will remain

NEW DELHI: U.K.’s telecom giant Vodafone, which recently acquired Hutchison’s stake in Hutch Essar, on Wednesday announced that from September 21, Vodafone brand will be officially launched in India.

With this, India will now become the 26th country where Vodafone has operations.

“This marks a significant chapter in the evolution of Vodafone as a dynamic and ever-growing brand. The brand change over the next few weeks will be unveiled nationally through a high profile campaign covering all important media,” said a Vodafone Essar statement. However, the pug featured in Hutch’s advertisements that has come to represent the company would remain.

According to Vodafone Essar’s Managing Director, Asim Ghosh, “We have had a great innings as Hutch in India and today marks a new beginning for us. Not as a departure from the fundamentals that created Hutch, but an acceleration into the future with Vodafone’s global expertise.”

Its Marketing and New Business Director, Harit Nagpal, said the transition was probably the largest ever undertaken in the country.

“It is even larger than our own previous brand transitions as it touches over 3.5 crore customers, across four-lakh shops and thousands of our own and our business associate employees,” Mr. Harit Nagpal said.
