Big win for Bharathiar University Departments

Coimbatore: Bharathiar University Departments (BUD) thrashed Shri Kumaran College of Arts and Science (Karamadai) by 151 runs in the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate cricket tournament for ‘A’ zone teams at the varsity grounds here on Tuesday.

The scores:

CMS 151 for five in 25 overs (Antony 43) lost to Dr. NGP CAS 154 for five in 24 overs (Shanmugam 82 not out).

SRKV 148 for seven in 20 overs (Arun Kumar 47) bt Bharathiar CAS (Gudalur) 92 for nine in 20 overs (Thyagu four for nine).

Bharathiar University Depts. 174 for nine in 25 overs (Kumar 57) bt Shri Kumaran CAS (Karamadai) 23 in 8.4 overs (Saravanan four for 10).

Dr. SNS Rajalakshmi 143 for six in 25 overs (Kanakaraj 44) bt Pioneer CAS 77 in 19.2 overs.

Selection trials

The selection trials for the Coimbatore District junior team for the 34th junior inter-district volleyball championship at Thiruvarur will be held at the Nehru Stadium courts on September 21 at 2.30 p.m.

Players born on or after 1-1-91 are eligible.

Badminton camp

The AK Youth Badminton Club will conduct a winter coaching camp at the DéjÀ vu Club courts from September 22 to October 7. Contact C. Arul Kumar at 94433-26027 or 93608-26027.

Karate championship

At Tirupur, the Rotary Club of Tirupur South and Shito-Ryu Karate-Do International India will conduct a South India level open karate championship at the club premises, opposite Natraj Theatre, on October 13 and 14.

Easy for GSIS

At Udhagamandalam, Good Shepherd International School (GSIS) posted an eight-wicket win over Hebron School in a league match of the NDCA under-19 inter-school cricket tournament for the F.K. Irani Rolling Trophy at the Lawrence School, Lovedale, on Wednesday.

The match was reduced to 20 overs-a-side due to rain.

The scores: Hebron 84 for nine in 20 overs (Gunal Moryani 38 not out) lost to Good Shepherd IS 87 for two in 14 overs.

Senthil takes honours

S. Senthil of Tiruvarur division won the individual title in athletics at the Tiruchi regional meet for Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services in Tiruchi on Wednesday.

The results: Athletics: 100m: S. Senthil (Tvr); 200m: S. Mugunthan (V’puram); 400m: M. Pandiaraja (Pdk); 800m: C. Thangadurai (Tnj); Long jump: S. Senthil (Tvr); High jump: P. Sudhagar; Triple jump: S. Senthil; Shot put: P. Sivagurunathan (V’puram); Volleyball: Final: Pudukottai bt Cuddalore 25-19, 25-16. Basketball: Final: Thanjavur bt Perambalur 28-5.

MAM CE bags title

MAM CE defeated Paventhar Bharathidasan CET 29-9, 29-2 to win the title in the Anna University inter-collegiate (zone VIII) ball badminton tournament for women at Tiruchi on Wednesday.

The results (final): MAM CE bt Paventhar Bharathidasan CET 29-9, 29-2.
