30 papers rejected

HUBLI: As many as 1,323 nomination papers filed by 834 candidates for the elections to the 156 wards of six civic bodies in Dharwad district have been found correct after scrutiny. As many as 1,353 nomination papers were filed in the district of which 30 set of papers were rejected after scrutiny on Tuesday.

In Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, during scrutiny, 27 nomination papers were rejected of the 825. As many as 469 candidates are in the fray for the elections to the 67 wards. During scrutiny, two nomination papers of the 64 filed for the elections to the Alnavar Town Panchayat and one set of papers of the 84 filed for Kundagol Town Panchayat were rejected. The number of candidates in the fray is likely to come down as some of the rebel candidates are likely to withdraw their nomination papers. Thursday is the last day for withdrawing nomination papers. Meanwhile, the confusion with regard to official Congress candidates in some of the wards seems to have been sorted out. The former Mayor, Prakash Kyarakatti, has been declared as the Congress candidate in ward number 40 as he was able to submit the “B” form at the last minute.

In ward number 55, where two candidates from the Congress, Kashimsab Shiraguppi and Rajanikant Bijawad, had submitted “B” forms, the Election Officer declared Kashimsab Shiraguppi as the official candidate as he was the first to submit “B” form.

Of the 944 nomination papers received for 203 wards in nine civic bodies of Gadag district, 10 set of papers were rejected. As many as 753 candidates are in the fray.

In Haveri district, 14 nomination papers were rejected of the 1,267.
