Belgaum
Belgaum: Hectic confabulations continued in the rival camps identified as Kannada and Marathi groups over finalisation of their official nominees for the September 28 polling for the Belgaum City Corporation Council, even as only a day is left for withdrawal of nomination papers. However, three aspirants withdrew their nomination papers on Wednesday, official sources in the corporation said. Nominations
As many as 440 aspirants had filed 489 nomination papers for the 58-member corporation council, of which 15 nomination papers were rejected during the process of scrutiny on Tuesday. The Sarvapaksha Sarvabhashik Chunavane Samithi was trying to evolve a consensus on fielding their nominees to take on the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES). The situation is not very different in the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi camp where a large number of Marathi-speaking individuals have thrown in their hats and are being persuaded to withdraw their nomination papers on Thursday. In all, for the 392 municipal wards, including 58 in the Belgaum City Corporation, 2,387 nomination papers were received.
