Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: A 27-year-old youth sustained minor burns when firecrackers stored in his hutment exploded on Wednesday afternoon. The Medical College Police identified the injured as Rajan, a resident of Bund Colony. Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar said Rajan had collected the unexploded crackers from the premises of a nearby temple. He kept the explosives in a packet near his bed. The firecrackers exploded at 2.15 p.m. when Rajan fell on the packet in an inebriated condition, the police said. Rajan sustained burn injuries on his chest and limbs. His house was damaged in the explosion. Rajan has been admitted to Government Medical College Hospital. His condition was reported to be stable. Quoting forensic experts who inspected the blast scene, Suresh Kumar said the firecrackers were designed for “low intensity” explosions. The crackers were of the type commonly used for celebrations. The police have booked Rajan on the charge of violating the Explosives Act.
