BANGALORE: The Centre will extend financial assistance for all projects and programmes undertaken by the Karnataka Janapada Parishat for nurturing, propagating and developing folk arts, Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan said here on Wednesday. Mr. Rajasekharan was releasing a documentary “Karnataka’s folk art forms” produced by the parishat in the CD-Rom format. Paying rich tributes to the late H.L. Nage Gowda, founder- president of the parishat, Mr. Rajasekharan said the Janapada Loka of the parishat situated near Ramanagara on the Mysore-Bangalore Road was a unique repository of folk cultures and artefacts in the world. Launching an official website of the parishat, www.janapadaloka.org, Minister for Primary Education Basavaraj Horatti said the State Government was committed to the cause of the cultural development of the State. Reading a prepared speech of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who could not participate in the function owing to some political preoccupations, Mr. Horatti said the State Government would stand by the parishat. Parishat president and executive president G. Narayana and T. Thimme Gowda respectively explained the projects of the parishat on the anvil and sought financial help from the Centre and the State Government. The maker of the documentary Sirigandha Srinivasamurthy and the designer of the website Srinatha Shastry were felicitated on the occasion.
