Tension at law college

Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM: Tension prevailed for sometime on the campus of Chengalpattu Law College on Wednesday afternoon following a brawl between students and a ‘group of visitors.’

According to police, Palanivelrajan of Nandambakkam came to the college, along with a few others, to meet Principal Janardanam since his sister Azhaguvalli (20), studying in the college, complained that a student Devakumar (19) of Porpanankarai near Madurantakam ragged her on Monday and Tuesday.

While Palanivelrajan and Azhaguvalli were discussing the issue with Vice-Principal Gajendran (holding additional charge as Mr.Janardanam was on leave), a scuffle broke out between the students and Palanivelrajan’s supporters. Both groups pelted stones on each other. Six vehicles were damaged.

The situation was brought under control after a team of policemen rushed to the campus. Subsequently both the parties lodged complaints against each other with the police.
