GUNTUR: The incessant rains induced by the low pressure over Bay of Bengal claimed three more lives on Wednesday, taking the death toll in the rain-related incidents in the district to 10. Normal life was paralysed in the district for the third consecutive day as all the drains and canals were overflowing. With the flood discharge from the Prakasam barrage downstream touching 4.1 lakh cusecs on Wednesday evening, mandal revenue officers of Lanka (island) villages, like Gumbanapalem and Revecharla have sounded an alert. There were reports of a breaching of a tank at Gumbhanapalem. Three persons who died have been identified as, Bittu Venkateswara Reddy from Bapatla who died after struck by lightening, Kotha Yacub of Savalyapuram mandal near Vinukonda and B. Ramanamma of Muppala village in Ipuru mandal, who got drowned in Addanki Branch canal. Bus services hitThe Road Transport Corporation had suspended bus services to some low-lying areas and the district administration deployed boats at Kolluru and Bhattiprolu villages. Several paddy fields in villages of Tenali Revenue Sub-Division were submerged and farmers keeping their fingers crossed as heavy inflow from upstream areas was continuing.
