Letters to the Editor
The attack on the house of Selvi, daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, and the burning of a Tamil Nadu transport bus should be strongly condemned as they go against the democratic and secular character of Indian polity. In a civilised society, one has a right to approve or disapprove of anything. One may have differences with Mr. Karunanidhi on the Ramar Sethu issue, but violence is not the appropriate manner to express dissent. Such undemocratic behaviour should not be tolerated in the world’s largest democracy. T. Marx, Karaikal The attack on Ms. Selvi’s house deserves to be condemned. In what way is she concerned with the Ramar Sethu issue, the comments on which allegedly triggered the attack? She has expressed views neither in favour of nor against the project or, for that matter, Rama and the Ramayana. It appears that some sections see no rhyme or reason on any issue, and indulge in violence at will. R.T. Narayanan, Chennai
