A new robe

Former Chief Secretary Lizzie Jacob is all set to don the magician’s robe after her voluntary retirement from service in the wake of the controversy over the Merchiston land deal.

Ms.Jacob arrived at the Magic Academy at Poojappura on Wednesday to enrol for the course that would make her a qualified magician. She was accompanied by her husband Babu Jacob, also a former Chief Secretary. Academy founder magician Gopinath Mudukad welcomed the duo.

“Right from childhood, I had nursed the desire to learn magic. But at that time there was no institution or facility to impart training in the art. Later, when formal training in magic became a reality, I was too tied up with official matters to find time to indulge in the passion”, Ms.Jacob said.

On her first day at the academy, Ms.Jacob was taught a few simple tricks, such as making coins vanish.
