BHUBANESWAR: After going into hibernation for nearly 13 years, the Orissa State Council of Culture has been reconstituted recently with a decision to re-launch the coveted Konark Samman from this year. After many reports on the plight of the Council appeared in the media that the Department of Culture roused from its deep slumber this week and to realised that there was a one such council in the past, which used to confer a coveted award. The long-forgotten Council will again meet on September 29. The coveted Konark Samman, instituted in 1990, carries a silver replica of the horse in the Sun temple in Konark, a citation and a cash award of Rs.50,000. The activities of the Council and presentation of the honour discontinued ever since the Council came under the control of the Department of Culture a decade ago.
