Schemes aplenty for farmers, says Vellore Collector

ALANGAYAM: The main aim of mass contact programmes is to create awareness of welfare schemes among the rurals, Vellore Collector Dharmendra Pratap Yadav said at a programme here on Wednesday.

Several farmers were not aware of such schemes and subsidies available. They should be regularly in touch with officials of the Agriculture Department, Mr. Yadav said.

Child labour should be eradicated in the district. Children should be encouraged to go to school and it is the duty of the parents “to guide the children on a productive path,” Mr. Yadav said.

The district administration would take strict action against those who forcefully send their wards to work.

Mr. Yadav said doctors at the Government Hospitals in the district were well experienced and it was wrong to say that they failed to attend to the patients. People should approach Government Hospitals for treatment and avoid private ones, he added.

The Central and State Governments had evolved a strategy whereby Government Hospitals have been given a free hand to upgrade facilities.

Later the Collector distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs.48 lakh. New ration cards were given to 209 people and over 80 beneficiaries received house pattas.

Tirupattur Sub-Collector Ashish Kumar, Alangayam panchayat union chairman K. Devaraj, town panchayat chairman Kalaiselvi Sridhar and Narasingapuram panchayat president Sangeetha Bhoopalan were present.
