Accused person in killing of a girl arrested; confesses to the crime

BERHAMPUR: Skeletal remains of a girl were recovered by the police from Dahaliapalli jungle in Ganjam district on Wednesday after two years of her murder to unravel a story of lust, deceit and slaughter.

The Buguda police arrested Banamali Swain of Golia village in connection with the murder. He was absconding for the last two years. The accused, who has eight children, had promiscuous relationship with the girl. And the greatest irony was that he had made his friend and business partner’s daughter his victim.

According to Bhanjanagar Circle-Inspector S. Jamadar, who is investigating the case, Banamali and Natha Gouda of Golia village were friends and business partners. Banmali allegedly developed illicit relationship with Chhabi, 22-year-old daughter of Natha.

In 2005 Chhabi was found to be pregnant.

In a rage, Natha expelled her from his house and Banamali accepted her as a member of his family. But Banamali’s wife started objecting to the relationship between the two which made Banamali shifted her to a relative’s home near Dahaliapalli jungle.

According to the police, in 2005, he allegedly murdered Chhabi by poisoning her food and buried the body inside the jungle.

Kidnap charge

Chhabi’s father had lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Banamali had kidnapped his daughter. Recently, the police received information that Banamali, who was absconding, returned to the village. He was arrested by the police.

The police were shocked when Banamali confessed that he had murdered her. After a search, the skeletal remains of Chhabi were located. They were sent to MKCG Medical College for forensic test.
