INUNDATED: A rain-affected area in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. BHUBANESWAR: The incessant rain since Wednesday night lashed several parts of Orissa causing water-logging in several towns including the capital city, Cuttack and Puri. Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre predicted more rain during the next two days under the influence of a low pressure area. “South West monsoon has been active over the State. Wednesday’s well-marked low pressure area over West Central Bay of Andhra Pradesh coast now lies over West Central Bay, adjoining South Orissa and North Andhra coast,” the Met office sources said. It said heavy to very heavy rain was likely at isolated places especially in coastal region. During the last 24 hours, Puri received maximum 30.9 ml of rainfall followed by Sundargarh with 22.2 ml. Cities such as Cuttack and Sambalpur received 17 ml and 16.6 ml of rainfall respectively. Water recedingWater entered several parts of Cuttack town. By the afternoon, though water started receding in several colonies, people suffered due to overflowing drains in some densely-populated areas. Similarly, there was water-logging in several low-lying areas of the capital city such as Sishu Vihar, Old Town, GGP Colony and some pockets of Mancheswar Industrial Estate and Barmunda village. Revenue Control room, however, said though continuous rain was recorded, water level was not found to be rising in all major rivers of the State.
