Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Government on Thursday asked the Centre to set up community radio stations in remote and inaccessible tribal areas of the State to ensure fast and equitable communication. Traditional mediaTraditional media like newspapers, magazines and TV channels have limited reach due to difficult geographical and topographical conditions of the State, Director information and Public Relations Dinesh Malhotra said speaking at the Information and Broadcasting Ministers conference in Delhi. Emotional unityTribal areas like Pangi, Lahaul and Spiti remained cut off from rest of the world for six months in a year and community stations could play a pivotal role in emotional unity of the people of the state besides information, education and communication in these sensitive border areas, he said. Local needsHe sought community stations for different communities and regions to cater to their local needs.- PTI
