Collectors told to expedite construction of permanent houses for tsunami victims
VILLUPURAM: Ashok Vardhan Shetty, Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, held a regional review meeting here on Thursday on the implementation of various schemes in six districts.
‘Ensure time-frame’
He called upon the District Collectors to ensure that all the works were completed within the scheduled time.
They should visit the spots to personally supervise the works.
He noted that the Project Officers (Mahalir Thittam) should also inspect the training imparted to the members of the women Self-Help Groups and the youth SHGs.It was the responsibility of the officials to make sure that the SHGs get the revolving funds for promoting their ventures.
Mr. Shetty said that steps should be taken to fill the posts of Makkal Nala Paniyalargal and Junior Assistants in local bodies.
As far as the tsunami rehabilitation works were concerned, he called upon the district administrations to expedite the construction of permanent houses.
Six Collectors
The Districts Collectors including Brajendra Navnit of Villupuram, Pradeep Yadav of Kancheepuram, Ranvir Prasad of Tiruvallur, Tenkasi S.Jawahar of Nagapattinam, Dharmendra Pratap Yadav of Vellore and Sathya Prada Sahu of Tiruvannamalai participated.
Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Director of Rural Development, Muruganandam, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation and Tsunami Executive Director Thangavelu also accompanied Mr. Shetty.
The Project Officers of the District Rural Development Agency and Mahalir Thittam and Assistant Directors of Panchayat took part in the meeting.
