Courting arrest: TRS activists taken into custody while holding demonstration near APIIC office in Hyderabad on Thursday, protesting against auction of Government lands. HYDERABAD: Reiterating their commitment to continue their struggle against the auction of Government lands, major Opposition parties criticised the Government for handing over vast stretches of prime lands to rich persons and industrialists in the name of development. Leaders and activists of the Telugu Desam, Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India staged a dharna in front of the Parishrama Bhavan, AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation’s headquarters, in protest against the auction of lands at Rayadurgam that were taken from Chanakyapuri Housing Society. There were tense moments for some time as the police prevented the Opposition leaders and activists who took out a rally to Parishrama Bhavan where elaborate security arrangements were made. Cordon brokenThough a majority of the protestors were stopped at Basheerbagh, CPI MP Azeez Pasha, senior CPI leader K. Ramakrishna and CPI (M) State secretariat member Y.V. Rao managed to break the police cordon and reach the venue. With the police erecting a barbed wire fence, the leaders staged a sit-in raising slogans against the Government and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Even as the police were lifting the agitating members, another group of protestors led by TRS MLA Nayani Narsimha Reddy tried to proceed to the venue, but was prevented by the police. As heated arguments ensued, the police took the leaders into custody and moved them away from the venue. TDP leaders K. Vijayarama Rao, G. Sayanna and T. Krishna Reddy , representatives of AP Mahila Samakhya and others participated in the protest.
