Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: The Government has cancelled 151 permits given for constructing buildings without taking into consideration a High Court order during the previous Government’s period. The High Court order in OP no.8740/97 (S) was that the Government did not have the authority to give permits relaxing the zonal restrictions of development schemes under the Town Planning Act. The Government received the order on November 23, 2005. But the previous Government issued orders relaxing the zonal restrictions. These orders were cancelled by Local Self Government Minister Paloli Mohamed Kutty. The largest number of such permits was given for constructions in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode and Thrissur. The Minister said that buildings constructed by obtaining illegal concessions would be considered unauthorised. Legal action would be taken in these cases. The Government had earlier placed under suspension Senior Town Planner S. Rajaram who was responsible for it. The Minister asserted that the Government would not allow violation of law in construction of buildings.
