CHANDIGARH: Congress President Sonia Gandhi will lay the foundation stones of three prestigious projects, involving an investment of over Rs.8,467 crores, on October 7, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda told media persons here on Thursday. She would lay the foundation stone of the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) at Kundli in Sonipat district. The Institute would undertake research and development in food technology, develop new products, set food standards and protocols for testing. Thereafter, she will leave for Jhajjar where she will lay the foundation stone of the 1,500-MW Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project to be constructed at a cost of Rs.7,892.428 crores. Mr. Hooda pointed out that the first mega power plant in North India would be executed by NTPC as a joint venture with the Delhi Government and the Haryana Government. While NTPC would have an equity contribution of 50 per cent, Haryana and Delhi would have equity contribution of 25 per cent each. Haryana would get 750 MW of power from this project, he said, adding that the first unit of 500 MW would be commissioned on April 15, 2010, the second on June 15, 2010, and the third on August 15, 2010. Ms. Gandhi will address a “Bijli Rally” in Jhajjar before proceeding to Rewari to lay the foundation stone of the 73.36-km long Rewari-Jhajjar-Rohtak (Broad Gauge) railway line.
