Tuticorin: A wide range of handloom and handicraft products at attractive prices are on display at the National Art and Craft Fair being organised by Jaipur Textiles, a consortium of artisans’ groups from across the country, at Ramiah Mahal here.

The mela offers a variety of dress materials, handloom saris, paintings, artefacts, handmade products and utilitarian pieces for those who wish to decorate their homes and wardrobes elegantly. The 16-day expo will come to a close on October 5.

A wide range of collections of handloom saris from Orissa (Rs.480 to Rs.2,000), churidhar materials from Patiala embellished with handmade decorations (Rs.300 to Rs.2,500) Kurtha Pyjama (Rs.150 to Rs.450) and ‘duppattas’ adorned with mirror works and embroidery, are drawing the attention of visitors.

Some of the distinct appliqué design works from Orissa, which involves cutting of the fabric into the shapes of flowers, birds, animals and then stitching them on coloured clothing, adds vibrancy to the display.

Jaipur stone jewellery, priced in the range of Rs.200 to Rs.2,000, and colourful bangles from Rajasthan, are enticing the shoppers with their delicate designs. Rendering value-addition to the exhibition, a variety of products such as beer jar, coffee mug, flower pots, and decorative panels, all made of bamboo by a woman artisan from Tripura, Sabita Banerjee, is offered at tempting prices.

The exhibition is open to public from 9.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. B. Bhagirath Yadav, proprietor of Jaipur Textiles, says that a 10 per cent discount is offered on handicrafts and 20 per cent on handloom materials.
