Mobile medical unit at Sannidhanam

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Health Department will deploy a mobile medical unit at the Nadappanthal at Sabarimala Sanniadhanam during the rush days of the forthcoming Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival, District Medical Officer (DMO) Purushothama Bhatt has said. The DMO was addressing a district-level meeting convened by District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh here on Thursday to review the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrim season that begins on November 16.

Vector control

He said the department would take every possible preventive measures against epidemics at Sabarimala by launching vector control drive and effective sanitation programmes.

The four-storey Sabarimala block at the Pathanamthitta General Hospital would be made fully operational by October 31. The Collector said that a proposal was submitted to the Government for setting up a permanent hospital at Pampa, besides opening seasonal Ayurvedic dispensaries at Nilackal and Neelimala.

Mr. Singh said the service of police personnel would be made available for the smooth functioning of squads attached to various departments at Sabarimala as well as the base camps.

Water quality

The District Environment Engineer with the State Pollution Control Board Paulus Eapen said the board would make arrangements for testing the quality of drinking water supplied at Sabarimala and various base camps.

He said that arrangements would also be made for day-to-day monitoring of the water quality of Pampa river.

The Excise Department would open control room at Pampa.

The Food and Civil Supplies Department would deploy 30 food inspectors at Pampa and Sannidhanam.
