Kolkata: Tata Motors has appointed 17 youths from Singur villages. The appointment letters were issued on the Singur car plant premises to those who were part of the first batch of ITI-trained youth. (The Trinamool-backed Krishi Jami Raksha (Save Farmland) Committee has been protesting against the Tata Motors car project alleging forcible acquisition of farmland.) Skill upgradingA press release said skill upgrading for the appointees would continue at the Jamshedpur plant and subsequently at Singur. Another group of 302, all from Singur villages, is now undergoing training at various ITIs and also at the Ramakrishna Shilpa Mandir, Howrah. Trade testAfter completing their programmes, they would take a trade test conducted by the West Bengal Government’s Department of Technical Education & Training. The successful candidates would then undergo hands-on training at the Tata Motors facilities. On successful completion of this 15-month programme, the trainees would appear for tests to qualify for trade certificates issued by the National Council for Vocational Training and become eligible for employment at the Singur plant and vendor facilities. TrainingAnother batch of 101 youths was selected for training at the various ITIs and it would also take a trade test.
