COLOMBO: The Air Force on Thursday claimed to have bombed the LTTE’s arms and ammunition storage in the Mullaittivu area. The Defence Ministry said the target had been accurately hit following information through both ground and air surveillance. However, the LTTE disputed the military version and charged that the bombing had damaged several homes injuring six persons. “One home was completely destroyed injuring all six people who were inside.” Several bombs were dropped on a civilian settlement just one km from the Puthukudiyiruppu junction, said a statement posted on the LTTE Peace Secretariat. TamilNet said bombs were dropped near Puthukkudiyiruppu town, targeting Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) Mullaiththeevu district office and the civilian settlements. Separately, the Ministry said President Mahinda Rajapaksa has extended the services of Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and Army Commander Lieutenant-General Sarath Fonseka for one more year.
