Army Boys Company defeats Town Hall HSS

NEW DELHI: Army Boys Company, 58 GTC, Shillong, recorded a 2-1 victory over Town Hall Higher Secondary School (Sundergarh) in the Subroto Cup junior football tournament here on Thursday.

Bobo Singh and Jackie Chand Singh scored for the winner, while Shashi Toppo scored for the loser.

In another match, Lumlankgi Paawa performed a hat-trick in Om Roy Higher Secondary School’s (Meghalaya) 4-0 victory over Kreeda Prabodhini School (Pune). Ewanmi Lakiang scored the other goal for the Meghalaya team.

In other matches, Guru Gobind Singh Sports College (Lucknow) defeated Prabhat Higher Secondary School (Chhattisgarh) 7-0, while Air Force Bal Bharati School (Delhi) proved too strong for SGBK Sahu Senior Secondary School (Navada) in a 11-0 triumph.

AAI chief’s pat

The President of the Archery Association of India, Prof. Vijaykumar Malhotra, has congratulated the Indian contingent for winning a gold, a silver and three bronze medals in the 15th Asian archery championship that concluded at Xian, China, on Thursday.

“I am delighted that Mangal Singh Champia has got an individual berth for the Beijing Olympics. None of the top teams like Korea, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Malaysia could stop the Indian men from winning the team gold. It is a heartening achievement”, said Prof. Malhotra in a release issued here on Thursday.

Delhi in quarterfinals

Delhi held Kerala to a 1-1 draw and topped cluster ‘V’ with seven points in qualifying for the quarterfinals of the 30th National sub-junior football championship at Haldwani, Uttarakhand.

Delhi took the lead in the 23rd minute through Hemant Adhikari and Kerala equalised in the 35th through Kaushar.

Delhi had earlier won its matches against Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, while Kerala ended up second in the group with five points.

IAF posts win

Indian Air Force, Palam, scored a 4-1 victory over formidable Royal Rangers in a super-six league match of the DSA ‘A’ division football league at the Nehru Stadium ground here on Thursday.

In another match, Ajmal Club defeated Rohini Club 3-1.

Kuljeet shines

Kuljeet top-scored with 26 points as host Oxford School outplayed Adarsh Public School 55-14 in the senior boys’ section of the 18th Hansraj Prabhakar memorial basketball tournament on Thursday.

Other results: Senior boys: Sachdeva School 51 (Prithvi 12, Amit 12, Kunwar 10) bt Bal Bharati Public School 22.

Senior girls: Oxford School 28 bt Hansraj Model School 5; St. Xavier’s School, Shahbad 43 (Vishaka 16) bt Modern School, Barakhamba Road 32 (Sugandha 13).

Sagar, Anmol score

A goal each by Sagar and Anmol helped host St. Francis De Sales School, Janakpuri, to a 2-0 triumph over Shiksha Bharati School, Dwaraka, in the semifinals of the Fr. Peter Mermier memorial football tournament on Thursday.

In the other semifinal, St. Mark’s School, Meera Bagh, humbled Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, 3-1 after leading 1-0 at the interval. Piyush (2) and Shivam found the target for the winner, while Akshay scored for the loser.

Volleyball tourney

The Delhi State mini boys’ and girls’ volleyball championship will be held at the VV DAV Public School, Vikaspuri, from September 29 to October 1. Entries close on September 26. Boys and girls born on or after January 1, 1994, will be eligible . The selection of the Delhi team will be made during the championship for participating in the National championship to be held at Bhilwara, Rajasthan.
