BANGALORE: The South Division police here have taken into custody 10 Sangh Parivar activists who allegedly attacked the J.P. Nagar residence of Selvi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s daughter, on Tuesday night and later torched a Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation (TNSETC) bus resulting in the death of two passengers. Highly placed sources in the city police told The Hindu that after attacking Ms. Selvi’s house around 7.45 p.m., the suspects travelled 5 km east to the Bangalore-Hosur Highway, stopped the Chennai-bound bus near the Oxford College of Engineering, smashed its windscreens with clubs and set it on fire. The group comprised about 15 activists of Sangh Parivar organisations, including the Bajrang Dal, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Sri Rama Sena. Besides Bangaloreans, some of the suspects are from Dakshina Kannada and Chikmagalur districts. They carried out the attacks to protest against Mr. Karunanidhi’s remarks on Lord Ram, the sources said. The suspects were apprehended on the information given by eyewitnesses, the sources said. However, the police refused to disclose the identities of the activists taken into custody. The suspects were holed up in an undisclosed location in the city and were trying to get in touch with lawyers. The police visited the houses of some other suspects but they were not at home. It was only a question of time before all those who were involved in the twin attacks were arrested, the sources said. TNSETC authorities on Thursday said that one of the dead passengers was Karupasamy (34) of Vasudevanallur near Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. An official said the body was identified by relatives. Even as the other body is yet to be identified, autopsies were performed in the Victoria Hospital on Thursday. TNSETC operates over 75 luxury buses to Bangalore and other parts of Karnataka from Chennai. The incident however had not affected the services, he added. Sense & sensibility on channel
