Aspiring storytellers and writers from India and some foreign countries were treated to a host of uniquely narrated French stories by visiting French storyteller and writer Muriel Bloch at an interaction programme held at the French Information Resource Centre in the French Embassy here on Wednesday. The storytelling session was organised by the National Centre for Children’s Literature, a wing of National Book Trust (India), in association with the French Information Resource Centre as part of NBT’s golden jubilee celebrations. With a style that combined voice modulations and gestures, the French storyteller also familiarised the audience with the present and past trends of writing stories in France. She also informed the audience of the fact that she had been greatly moved and influenced by the rich repertoire of Indian stories in general and Panchtantra and Vikram-Betal stories in particular. “Whatever knowledge I have about India is through its stories,” she said to Deepa Agarwal, renowned Indian children’s author. – Manisha Jha
