The bursting of the penstock pipe at Panniyar has set alarm bells ringing in the minds of Kochiites. The TV visuals of the sudden and violent surge of water from the broken penstockreminded many city dwellers of the possible disaster Kochi might face. It is the increasing water level of the Mullaperiyar dam and its safety that is a matter of concern for the city dwellers.
