Mercedes on India trail

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A fleet of seven Mercedes Benz cars entered Bangalore on Thursday as part of “Mercedes-Benz: The India Trail” – a pan-India trail. The drive was flagged off from Pune on September 17.

Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director of DaimlerChrysler India, said: “We are pioneers of the luxury car segment in India and have completed 12 years in the country. We see a lot of parallels between the country and the Mercedes-Benz brand.”

The pan-India drive, Mr. Aulbur said, was to celebrate the strong ties with India and to mark 70 years of diesel vehicle (the first diesel vehicle by Benz was tested on road in 1936).

The trail features the complete portfolio of diesel cars from the Mercedes-Benz stable – S-Class, C-Class, E-Class, M-Class, the bio diesel C-Class and the Valno. The seven cars in the entourage would cover a cumulative distance of over 40,000 km till October 10 touring Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Udaipur and Jaipur before culminating the journey in Delhi.

Mr. Aulbur said DaimlerChrysler has registered a fantastic growth in sales during 2007 by selling 1,681 units till August, of which 152 were sold in Bangalore.

The company witnessed a growth of 22 per cent when compared to the corresponding period in 2006.
