Mayor gets U.N. invitation

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra has been invited to attend a high-level United Nations event, “The Future in Our Hands” on climate change. The event will take place at the U.N. headquarters in New York on September 24.

According to a release, Ms. Mehra on Thursday accepted the invitation and will travel to the United States where she will join the heads of other metropolises at the conference.

The Chairman of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Standing Committee, Vijender Gupta, said this was a laudable achievement because it was possibly the first time that an Indian mayor had been invited to a UN event. Leader of the House Subhash Arya said Ms. Mehra had been chosen by the UN after screening 26 mayors of different metros in the world.
