Alleged molestation case of DU girl students

By examinees of police recruitment test

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday called for details of the action taken by the police in the case of molestation of some Delhi University girl students by examinees appearing in a test for recruitment of police constables on the North Campus this past Sunday.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice Sanjiv Khanna asked the investigating agency to come prepared with all the details relating to the case on Friday to explain various lapses in taking action in the matter.

The Bench issued the direction on a public interest litigation by a first year girl student of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Anjana Jain, through her counsel Sugriv Dubey seeking a judicial enquiry into the delay in registering an FIR.

Mr. Dubey submitted that it was a sad commentary on the efficiency and fairness of the police that they took four days to register FIRs in the case, and that too after a group of agitated girl students staged a demonstration outside the Delhi Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

He urged the Court to direct the police to inform what action they have taken so far to arrest the culprits.

He further submitted that the Court should also direct the police to organise a Test Identification Parade of all the examinees before the affected girls. Till the culprits are identified, the Court should stay further recruitment process so that the culprits were prevented from entering into the police service, the petition stated.
