Final phase of counselling begins

4,000-odd seats added in the final phase of counselling with new colleges getting permission

HYDERABAD: Final phase of counselling for engineering and pharmacy courses began on Thursday with the students’ preference continuing to hover around Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) courses. Another trend noticed was that several students from JNTU affiliated colleges were opting for Osmania University affiliated colleges. The top ranker to attend the counselling was 43rd ranker who however did not change his course or the college.

“Not many changes are expected among the top rankers but sliding will pick up once the lower rank students start attending counselling,” said the Camp Officer Dr. Raghunath. He said 4,000-odd seats were added in the final phase of counselling with new colleges getting permission after the first counselling. He expressed the view that unlike previous years not many seats would be left unfilled going by the trend.

Dr. Raghunath said that 1400 seats under “double fee” category were also available in this phase of counselling. However, several sought-after colleges have not opted for the fee waiver scheme of AICTE and thus don’t have “double fee” category seats. As of now there are 327 engineering colleges with 1,26,780 seats.

However, only 81,000 of these seats are under the Convenor quota and the rest in minority colleges and management quota.
