HYDERABAD: Over 282 child labourers were rescued in Ranga Reddy district till August end this year and necessary rehabilitation was provided to them, said National Child Labour Project Director K. Sudhakar Reddy here on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference along with Central Advisory Board on Child Labour Vice- Chairperson Jyoti Setiya, Mr. Sudhakar said Rs.8.24 lakh penalty was also collected from employers for appointing children in their houses. The same amount was deposited on the children’s names.
Around 161 cases were booked against employers under the provisions of Child Labour Act and Minimum Wages Act. Ms. Jyoti said efforts were being made to increase the budgetary allocations that would help to improve amenities in bridge schools started for such children. “After examining conditions in schools across the State, I will submit a report to the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment for necessary action,” she said.
