Exporters will be protected: Kamal Nath

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI:Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath has expressed concern over appreciating rupee and has assured exporters to protect their interests.

“Rupee appreciation is a matter of concern and we are going to do something to help exporters,” the Minister said while talking to presspersons here on Thursday.

Despite the rupee breaching the 40-level mark against the U.S. dollar and strengthening to its highest level in past nine years, Mr. Kamal Nath said the ambitious export target of $160 billion for the current fiscal would not be scaled down.

“Though the continuous rise in the value of the rupee is a matter a concern but still the export target for this can be met,” he added.

“It is a new situation which needs a new response. Exports are an engine of growth and we have to ensure that growth is not affected,” Mr. Kamal Nath said. The Rise in the rupee value has left exporters worried who have been urging the Union Government to take steps to help them counter the situation.
