Coimbatore: A1 Team India driver Narain Karthikeyan came up with yet another scorching performance, recording the fastest time on day two of the second pre-season test round at the Silverstone national circuit on Wednesday. The 30-year-old, who had finished the second quickest on the opening day, stopped the clock at 47.809s. In the process, he broke the lap record for an A1GP car around the national circuit by three tenths of a second. The earlier record stood in the name of A1 Team New Zealand driver Jonny Reid, who set the time on the first day of the test. Narain, who had limited track time at the last official test due to illness, was confident of the team doing well in the championship that begins at the Zandvoort Circuit in The Netherlands next weekend. “We certainly won’t be bad this time around. Going by the last two days’ performance, it looks like we will only be up there,” said Narain. Narain was happy with the car’s performance on the second day. The test session was incredibly close with just over a second separating India in the top spot and Mexico in 22nd. The 22 teams now head straight to The Netherlands for the thrilling A1GP season opener from September 28 to 30. — Sports Reporter
