City III makes 194

CHENNAI: City III was dismissed for 194 by City I on the first day of the TNCA under-17 round-robin cricket final played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday.

Varun Anand top-scored with 39, while K. Naveen Surya and M. Ashwin took two wickets each.

The scores: City III 194 in 76.4 overs (Varun Anand 39, K.M. Dheeraj 35, M.S. Sarath Kumar 31) vs. City I 23 for one in 11 overs.

Kaushik scalps five

Leg-spinner Kaushik U. Ram took five for 53 as City IV dismissed Districts II for 174 on the first day of a two-day league match in the TNCA under-13 round robin cricket tournament.

The scores: Districts II 174 in 83.5 overs (R. Arun Niwas 45, K. Vignesh 26, Kaushik U. Ram five for 53) v City IV 25 for two in eight overs.

Districts I 149 in 86.5 overs (N. Jagadeesan 27, S. Vignesh three for 23) v City I 24 for two in 11 overs.

Einstein for Anirudha

N. Einstein will replace S. Anirudha in the Tamil Nadu cricket team to play in the M.J. Gopalan Trophy in Colombo.

The replacement was necessary because Anirudha was picked in the India ‘A’ squad for the series against South Africa ‘A’.

Volleyball trials

Tiruvallur District Volleyball Association is conducting trials at the Nazareth College of Arts and Science, Avadi, on September 20 at 3 p.m. to select the junior team for the inter-district championship at Koradachery, Tiruvarur. Call 94430-06124 for details.

State championship

The Tamil Nadu Senior State throwball championship will be held at Velammal MHSS, Thirupuvanam, Madurai from September 23 to 25. The teams will be equally divided into four groups and the preliminary rounds will be conducted in league format and the two top teams will qualify for quarterfinals. Tiruchi is the defending champion in the men’s section while Chennai is the champion in the women’s category.
