Shimoga
CLARION CALL: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy inaugurating the Janata Dal (Secular) district-level workers’ meet in Shimoga on Friday. SHIMOGA: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said here on Thursday that he and his party had a major role in the sanctioning and implementation of several developmental works in the Shimoga district. Mr. Kumaraswamy was inaugurating the Janata Dal (Secular) workers’ meeting. He said he had extended his support and cooperation for all the developmental works without showing any mean mindedness. He said that whatever proposals were made for major works of the Shimoga district he signed them on a priority basis. Farm loanHe said that leaders of the party could take credit for having introduced the agricultural loan at 4 per cent rate of interest and the ban on the sale of arrack. “But the JD(S) workers should not forget that behind all these programmes there was a hand of H.D. Kumaraswamy and the Janata Dal (S),” he said. He said it had come to his notice through the media that there was a misuse of funds in the implementation of the developmental works in the district by paying more importance to the allocation of funds than to the quality of the works. He asked his party workers to keep a close watch on the implementation of such works and collect details about poor quality of work so that they could bring such instances to his notice. He claimed that the JD(S) had a bigger share in the achievements of the coalition government in the last 19 months and said that it was the responsibility of his party workers to highlight them. He said that people should be cautious about those who pursued politics in the name of religion as they were responsible for communal unrest. ‘Stay united’Recalling that it was JD(S) president H.D. Deve Gowda who revived the VISL of Bhadravati by ensuring its merger with the SAIL when he was the Prime Minister, he said he too contributed for the survival of VISL by sanctioning the ore mines to it. Mr. Kumaraswamy asked the party workers not to give any scope for groupism but strive to strengthen the party at all levels. He appealed to them to welcome those interested in joining the party. He said that it was only the Janata Dal (Secular) which was committed to the development of the State without giving scope for any unrest and sought people’s support to its candidates in the coming civic elections. He released the party’s manifesto. JD(S) district unit president M.B. Shivanna presided over the meeting. JD(S) State unit general secretary S. Srikanth, Sagar MLA Beluru Gopalakrishna, senior party leader Pa. Ra. Srinivas, the former MLC G. Madappa, the former MLA Konanduru Lingappa, zilla panchayat president Sharada Purya Naik and Y.H. Nagaraj were present.
