Indiramma full of loopholes: CPI (M)

VIJAYAWADA: Asserting that the Indiramma housing scheme was full of glaring loopholes, CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu on Friday asserted that his party was ready to prove its charge in any village of the Government’s choice if Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy deputed his Ministers for the verification.

“We’ll give up our agitation for distribution of land for the poor if we fail to prove our contention that Indiramma houses have been given only to those who already have a land of their own, or in some cases the houses have been built after pulling down some existing structure. If we prove our charge, will the Chief Minister stop making the argument that we’re unnecessarily agitating for house sites when the Government is itself giving houses?” Mr. Raghavulu sought to know at a press conference.

He reasoned that a large number of poor people were participating in the Left parties’ agitation for land distribution as they were convinced that the State Government was not going to give them houses without a house site.

The CPI (M) would suspend its agitation if the Government included all the landless poor in the list of beneficiares for Indiramma housing, he said.

A joint meeting of the CPI and the CPI (M) in Hyderabad on Saturday would chalk out a course of action to execute ‘Bhoo Poratam’ with full vigour in October.

The Left parties were determined to “call the bluff” of Indiramma “Sambaraalu” (celebrations) launched by the Government, and “expose” the Indiramma “Bandaaram” (naked truth) in a campaign.

Mr. Raghavulu apprehended that the Mudigonda kind of repression might be replicated throughout the State, as the Chief Minister himself asked the officials and the police at a meeting on September 19 to act ‘tough’ with the agitators of land struggle.

The CPI (M) would launch a struggle along with civil liberties’ organisations to fight against this kind of “repression”, the CPI (M) leader declared.
