Contractors from Hyderabad not keen on taking up projects in Medak Efforts are on to identify local contractors, says Roads & Buildings official Sangareddy: Pitted against the mega construction boom going in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, the Medak Roads and Buildings Department is finding it difficult to attract quality contractors to take up work in the district. Shortage of construction material and frequent price escalation has also hit the work in the district. The contractors from Hyderabad are not keen on taking up work in the district. On the other hand, contractors from Narayankhed, Shankarampet and Sadasivapet area are not interested in taking up new projects with the earlier experience of shortage of construction material and resultant unprofitable margins. Speaking to The Hindu, R&B Superintending Engineer, G. Vasanth, says that efforts are on to identify new contractors within the district. He says the trend has changed and except for construction of the Excise building here and inspection bungalow at Papannapet, the Department has been successful in finding contractors. The department hopes that the integrated collectorate complex and the district court complex, 48-km interstate Alladurg-Metalkunta road, high level bridge at Singur, Ghanpur-Chintapalli bridge and the Tad-danpalli-Singur road will be completed as per the schedule. The department has taken up phase II of the road safety intervention to make the existing R& B roads safer for travel. The widening of roads and culverts and marking of the existing roads was taken up at a cost of Rs. 2 crore during the first phase and the work on the second phase at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore will be taken up immediately after the end of monsoon. While the Nabard has granted Rs. 4.18 crore, the Hudco has given Rs. 6 crore for development of roads.
