‘Distribution of land is panacea for all problems’

Special Correspondent

Bengal cited as example for land distribution

CPI (M) says no politics involved in movement

True Marxist will never fear, says Sunit Chopra

KURNOOL: Sunit Chopra, Central Committee member of the CPI(M), has said the best way to bring peace either in rural Andhra Pradesh or elsewhere in the country is to give land to the poor. The CPI(M) Government in West Bengal could neutralise the effect of the Naxalbari movement at the place of its birth by distributing 12 lakh acres of land to the poor, he said.

The CPI(M) leader told reporters here on Friday that a true Marxist would never fear either arrest or bullet. The Government had to realise the truth before setting the police on the agitators in AP. In fact, it was an opportunity for the Rajasekhara Reddy Government to prove its credibility.

‘Positive movement’

Mr. Chopra described the CPI(M) land struggle as a ‘positive movement’ saying no politics was involved in it except land.

The CPI(M) was only insisting upon the implementation of the Act that ensured land to the poor. On the performance of the economy, Mr. Chopra said the growth was shown without an increase in jobs. Such artificial growth would ultimately lead to unrest in society.

He said the common man was not in a position to buy food because of the spiralling prices.

He said futures market was also nothing but a kind of hoarding.
