KADAPA: Power projects have been taken up to fulfil the goal of generating 7,700 MW of power by 2012, Chairman and managing director of A.P. Genco Ltd. Ajay Jain said on Friday.
Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant (RTPP) would become a super thermal power station generating 1,650 MW of power by 2011, Mr. Ajay Jain told newsmen at RTPP on Friday. Generation by 2012 would be 7,730 MW including 1,760 MW in Vijayawada thermal power station (VTPS), 1,720 MW in Kothaguden TPS, 1,600 MW in Krishnapatnam, 1,000 MW in Kakatiya and 1,650 MW in RTPP in the next five years, he disclosed.
Public hearing
The fourth unit of Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant would be synchronised by October 15. A public hearing would be conducted in October on environmental clearances to RTPP’s fifth unit, Mr. Ajay Jain said. BHEL was entrusted work on the fifth unit and land clearances obtained to begin work by March 2008, he said .
Green fund
District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said a Green Fund of Rs. 5 crore was mooted to promote greenery in Kadapa district. A sum of Rs. 1 crore was being spent on tree plantation on RTPP premises.
