City I wins on first innings lead

CHENNAI: City I defeated City III by virtue of first innings lead in the two-day TNCA round robin under-17 cricket tournament final that concluded at MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Friday.

The scores (final): City III 194 drew with City I 255 in 77.1 overs (R. Sri Charan 43, R. Rohit 60, S. Dinesh 44).

Koushik scalps five

J. Koushik’s five-wicket haul helped Districts I gain the first innings lead over City I on the final day of their match in the TNCA under-13 round robin tournament here on Friday.

In another match, City IV earned the first innings lead in the drawn match with Districts II.

The scores: Districts II 174 and 47 for two in 18 overs (U. Vishal 25) drew with City IV 220 for nine in 88.3 overs (K. Dhileepan 38, M. Adithyan 95, U. Vishal three for 49, M. Anand three for 42). City IV declared winner on first innings lead. Pts: City IV 5; Dist II 2.

Districts I 149 and 112 for two in 51 overs (S. Harish 60, Hari Nishant 31) drew with City I 104 in 53 overs (Harwin Ramoj 32, J. Koushik five for 36). Districts I declared winner on first innings lead. Pts: District I 5; City I 2.

Big win for Postal

Tamil Nadu Postal trounced St. Paul’s RC 7-0 in the CHA first division league being held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan stadium here.

The results: Tamil Nadu Postal 7 (Premkumar 3, Arumugam 3, Kamalakannan) bt St. Paul’s RC 0.

HVF Avadi 3 (Srinivasulu, Irudayaraj, Jothy Jayasudha) bt St. George’s HC 2 (Kevin Perlie, Nelson Burgoyne).

Madras Blues 1 (Fazil) bt The Hindu 0.

Table Tennis tournament

Tristar Table Tennis Club will conduct the 11th State-ranking tournament on September 22 and 23 at the Montfort Indoor Stadium, Santhome.

A. Rajath Kamal and J. Swarna have been seeded first in the men’s and women’s sections respectively.

Around 450 entries have been received for the tournament from 10 categories, according to D.V. Sundar, secretary, Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association.

Former international R. Hari and former State paddler Pallavi Hari of Tristar TT Club said that apart from the prize money, a special award would be given to the best player of the tournament in memory of P.K. Roy, the father of former National champion Niyati Shah.

Mir Kasim Ali, former International paddler and Arjuna awardee, will be the guest of honour.

The key sponsors of the tournament are State Bank of India, Polaris Software Lab, Cognizant Technical Solutions, Indian Overseas Bank and Bank of India.

Inter-collegiate sports

Kumararaja Muthiah Memorial inter-collegiate tournament in cricket, volleyball, kho-kho and inter-school table tennis event will be held from September 24 to 28 at Kumararani Meena Muthiah College of Arts and Science ground. Around 20 teams from different schools and colleges are taking part in the tournament.

Volleyball tournament

The Poondi Memorial Volleyball Club and Thiruvarur District Volleyball Association will conduct the Tamil Nadu junior inter-district championship for boys and girls at Korodachery, Thiruvarur from September 27 to 30.
