THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan has said that his party will consider the demand for a probe into the Ponmudi land deal if there are substantive reasons for conducting it. Mr. Bhargavan told TV channels on Saturday that his party was against jumping into conclusions and going in for inquiries merely because the United Democratic Front (the Opposition) has demanded it. The UDF, he said, was steeped in corruption and wanted to denigrate the CPI as well. However, if the departmental inquiries that were on pointed to the need for a detailed probe, the party would consider it. CPI leader and Food Minister C. Divakaran told reporters here that his party would not oppose a probe if there were rational reasons for the same. He said there was suspicion that the sandalwood lobby was behind the campaign against the Forest Minister and added that all the facts of the land deal were coming out one by one. The Government had already received the report of Land Revenue Commissioner Rajiv Sadanandan and reports of other inquiries were awaited. Revolutionary Socialist Party State secretary T. J. Chandrachoodan said Ministers’ inexperience could have been one of the reasons for the way the land deal had taken place. There were some flaws in governance on account of inexperience.
