BANGALORE: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Union Minister of State for Home Radhika Selvi will review on Sunday the damage caused by rain and floods in north Karnataka. Chief Secretary Prahalad B. Mahishi and Principal Secretary (Revenue) S.M. Jamadar told presspersons here on Saturday that Ms. Selvi would leave Bangalore in the morning for Hubli by air and conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas. Since the area in Nargund, Navalgund and Ron taluks in Dharwad, Gadag and Bagalkot districts had been affected by floods in Tupri Halla, Benni Halla and Handiganal Halla and the water from these streams joined at Arehalla to cause much more havoc in Hunagunda and Badami taluks near Malaprabha, the Union Minister had to inspect it aerially. Mr. Jamadar said there was a record rainfall of 150 mm everyday on September 17, 18 and 19 compounding the problem. The area had not witnessed so much rain in the last 150 years. He said the loss could not be estimated as the officials had not been able to visit the areas because of floods. Mr. Shivraj Patil would hold the review meeting in Bangalore. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and officials would make a presentation. The Union Minister would be accompanied by Prabhanshu Kamal, Joint Secretary, and Murali Kumar, Director of Disaster Management in the Union Home Ministry.
