230 bags of PDS rice seized

Hosur: District supply officials seized 230 bags of rice meant for supply under the public distribution system which was being smuggled in a lorry at Zuzuvadi near here on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by District Supply Officer Thyagarajan was conducting vehicle checks at the Zuzuvadi check-post when they intercepted a lorry with rice bags. The lorry was going from Trichy to Bangarapet for sale and subsequent polishing in the open market. Lorry driver Muruganand was arrested. The Food cell police have registered a case.
