KSRTC instructed to operate 30 buses

Madikeri: The famous “Teertodbhava” at Talacauvery, the birthplace of Cauvery, will occur at 8.20 a.m. on October 18.

Deputy Commissioner K.R. Niranjan, who presided over a preliminary meeting here on Saturday asked officials of all departments to ensure smooth conduct of the “Cauvery Jatre,” which is to begin with the occurrence. The Cauvery is believed to emerge from the “Brahmakundike” at Talacauvery in the form of a holy spring on that day.

Mr. Niranjan said since the occurrence would take place in the midst of “Navaratri” celebrations in Kodagu, visitors would arrive in large numbers from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, besides various other regions of the State.

He asked officials of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation to provide 30 buses to Bhagamandala and Talacauvery from various parts of the district from October 17 to November 17. He also asked the Regional Transport Officer to issue permits to private buses visiting the twin pilgrim centres from rural areas. Officials of the Public Works Department have been asked to put up signboards, clear landslips on the Bhagamandala-Talacauvery road and put up barricades wherever required. Drinking water, parking facilities, uninterrupted power supply and unhindered movement of vehicular traffic should be ensured, he told officials.

Close circuit television sets would be placed at important points in Talacauvery to help pilgrims view “teertodbhava,” he said. About 300 Scouts and Guides, Home Guard personnel and stree shakti groups will be involved during the occurrence. After the start of “Ajnamuhurta” on October 5, the sale of meat and liquor will be banned for 15 days in Talacauvery and Bhagamandala areas.
