Novel way to air grievance

B.V.S. Bhaskar

Rajahanagaram (East Godavari): The Primary Education Department has recently introduced two things – a post box and a wall magazine.

While the students’ response to the post box is overwhelming, the teachers’ response to the wall magazine is poor. The post box is meant to submit grievances, if any, of the students. There is tremendous response to the concept from the 4,887 government schools in the district, including high schools. Most importantly, it has exposed the loopholes in the government’s prestigious mid-day meal scheme.

In Rajahanagaram mandal, there are 55 upper primary and 10 high schools. Most of the post boxes there have been filled with representations seeking ‘egg’ or ‘pulihora’ (lemon rice) twice in a week as per rules.

In Patha Tungapadu village, some 850 kg of rice was misused. An enquiry was ordered by the DEO two months ago. No action was taken as yet.
