District registers 869.2 mm rain in the last 24 hours
VIZIANAGARAM: Following depression in the Bay of Bengal, the district has been experiencing continuous drizzle, with occasional heavy rainfall, for the last three days.
All minor irrigation tanks are full and overflowing.
The district recorded 869.2 mm of rain during the last 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. The average was 25.6 mm.
Control rooms
Stating that the rains were good for paddy, agriculture officials said transplantation of paddy in 1.1 lakh hectares (normal area) was completed.
In the wake of continuous drizzle, the district administration, as a precautionary measure, opened control rooms.
They are: in Vizianagaram (phone nos: 1077 (toll free), 236947 and 276888), Parvathipuram (221006), Tehsildar Office, Poosapatirega (258840) and Tehsildar Office, Bhogapuram ( 240340).
In Vizianagaram town, several low-lying areas such as City Bus Stand, New Poorna, Pradeep Nagar, Sai Nagar Colony, etc were found water-logged.
Traffic hit
As a result, free movement of vehicles was affected.
